Coumbe Emigrants from North Hill
The following Coumbe's migrated from North Hill.
1837: Jacob Bowden and Ann Coumbe
Jacob Bowden, wife Ann Bowden (née Coumbe) and daughter Lydia, with son Ed born aboard, migrated to South Australia on the Royal Admiral, arriving 18 Jan 1838. Ann was the sister of James Coumbe, the author's major migrant of interest. Ann and Jacob were married at North Hill in 1833. See their details: Ann Coumbe and Jacob Bowden.
1855: Henry Coumbe (1804-76), wife Jane Forster (1811-?) and children
Henry Coumbe (1804-76) agricultural labourer of Trebartha / North Hill, married Jane Forster (1811-?) and children: Harry Coumbe (1833-77), Mary Coumbe (1835-?), Elizabeth Forster Coumbe (1838-?), John Coumbe (1845-1925), William Coumbe (1848-1913). Henry was at Bautel Cottage for the 1841 census and Bowhayland in 1851. They migrated to South Australia in the ship Velocity in 1855. See their details: Velocity - 1855 - Henry Coumbe and Family.
1869: John Coumbe (1841-1910), House Carpenter, Trebartha to USA
John Coumbe, bap. 1841 North Hill was in the 1861 census as a house carpenter in Trebartha. He migrated to USA on City of Baltimore in 1869. On the same ship there is also Alice Coumbe aged 22 Spinster (occupation rather than marital status?), but this is more likely to be John's wife, Alice (nee Skentlebury / Scantlebury).
We are still looking for a John Coumbe - Alice Skentlebury marriage in Cornwall.
According to researcher Misty Coumbe, the 1880 Cook
County, Illinois, census shows John Coumbe and wife Alice (ages 38 and 32);
their two sons: Luther and Ernest (ages 10 and 1); and John's mother-in-law,
Alice, age 62, last name a little illegible, but it is either Skentlberg or
Skentlberry. Following the death of his wife Alice, John married
Margaret Anna Shapcott. Their children and descendants are being
researched by Misty Coumbe: Updated: 4 Feb 2012 |
