Home Ø Migrants Ø Princess Royal 1847 Migrants - Princess Royal – 1847 The following are recorded as Coombe on arrival in South Australia: Eliza; James; James and wife and 4 children; John; Thomas and wife and 2 children; and William.  This is a family group consisting of James and Elizabeth, their children and grandchildren. They arrived on the Princess Royal on 16 March 1847. They are the ancestors of Coombs and Coombes in Australia. Patriarch James died just a year after migrating. Challenging! This family has been particularly difficult to research due to inconsistencies in surnames in the transcripts of births, deaths and marriages. James Coombe was recorded as a tin streamer at Trenilk in the parish of Altarnun in the 1841 census. He was the son of Richard Coumbe (of Trenilk, Altarnun, yeoman) and Martha Symons. The migrants on the passenger list, with birth date and approximate age at 1846 emigration, are:    * Eliza: 1832 (16)    * James: 1823 (23)    * James, wife and 4 children: James 1793 (53), Elizabeth, Maria 1836 (10), Emma 1838 (8), Ann 1840-41 (5-6), Daniel 1844 (3)    * John 1830 (16)    * Thomas, wife and 2 children: Thomas 1821 (25), Elizabeth, William 1845, another child    * William 1823 (23). SA James’ Ancestry James' father was Richard Coumbe (of Trenilk, Altarnun, yeoman, 1765-1848). Richard conducted various land transactions with Rodd of Trebartha, including Trevage (Trevague) land jointly owned with Sarah Coumbe (1702-81) of Northill, widow of Edward (1700-50), son of John (1664-1711) who appears in Henry Coumbe's Ancestry. It is possible that Richard is related to Sarah's late husband Edward, but the researched ancestry does not as yet reveal a relationship.
